Building a Healthy Neighborhood in Cleveland

September 22, 2016 in News

We’re heading to Cleveland, Ohio to join Rebuilding Together for its blockbuster Building a Healthy Neighborhood event. This marks the sixth year of Rebuilding Together’s largest annual effort. Charter our Community is proud to once again participate.

We’re joining five other national and local partners, along with nearly 600 expected volunteers. To-date, Building a Healthy Neighborhood has given back more than $3.25 million in market value nationwide.

Slavic Village was selected as this year’s community. In a single weekend, together with Rebuilding Together Northeast Ohio, we’ll help repair 10 homes and a community center serving homeless residents.

By the Summer of 2007, in terms of home foreclosures, this historic working-class neighborhood was among the hardest hit communities in the country. Today the community is still riddled with vacant and dilapidated properties.

Slavic Village is working towards revitalization, attracting many community development efforts. With property values still below the average for Cleveland, the goal of our upcoming event is to help make the neighborhood a healthier, thriving community, where residents remain long term.

An Army of Volunteers Will Tackle the Rebuild

Close to 600 volunteers will repair home floors, roofs and handrails. They will also paint, landscape, weatherize and make properties more accessible (to the elderly and disabled).

Building a Healthy Neighborhood exemplifies Rebuilding Together’s mission to provide a safe and healthy home for every person and to revitalize the communities in which we live. At Charter we are proud to join forces to revitalize Slavic Village.
